Frequently asked questions

How do I check if a nurse's AHPRA registration is current?
AHPRA maintains a public register at ahpra.gov.au/Registration/Registers-of-Practitioners. You can search by name and verify registration status, conditions, and expiry date in real time.
What happens if a nurse's AHPRA registration is suspended?
A nurse cannot practise while their registration is suspended. Aged care facilities must immediately remove the nurse from clinical duties and notify the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission if relevant.
How often is AHPRA registration renewed?
Annually on a fixed profession-wide date — nurses and midwives renew by 31 May each year (not on the anniversary of initial registration). The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia requires 20 CPD hours per registration period.
